The internet is all-praise for American actor Mark Ruffalo after he hit out at Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that the removal of International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan did not erase the accusations of atrocities in Gaza.
“You are a murderous maniac Benjamin Netanyahu,” Ruffalo wrote on X on Sunday. He argued that lobbying to remove Khan, who issued the arrest warrant for Netanyahu in 2024, does not mean “the war crimes disappear” or guilt assuaged.
Ruffalo maintained that the Israeli leader “will not lobby history” and will always be remembered for his actions. “You will not outrun justice,” he wrote, drawing a wave of support online.
One user wrote, “Well… looks like Hulk is officially the only real-life Avenger!!!!”
Another wrote, “Thank you Mark Ruffalo. A hero on and off screen. We love you.”
A third commented, “Hulk for a reason with a big heart.”
Another simply wrote, “Salute to Mark Ruffalo.” One added, “Big applause, the Hulk.”
Ruffalo is best known for playing Bruce Banner and the Hulk in Marvel’s Avengers movies. His comments followed Khan’s removal as the Assembly of States Parties, the ICC’s 125-member governing body, voted on Friday to dismiss Khan over sexual misconduct allegations, which he denies.
Assembly President Päivi Kaukoranta said 82 member states found that Khan had committed serious misconduct and a serious breach of duty, marking the first time in the court’s history that a sitting chief prosecutor has been removed from office.
Khan’s lawyer Tayab Ali has said the decision was politically motivated and that it will be challenged.
Khan had issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu in 2024 over war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the genocide in Gaza.
Ruffalo, one of Hollywood’s most outspoken voices for Palestinian rights, has repeatedly described the situation as genocide and ethnic cleansing, a characterisation also used by a number of UN agencies and human rights groups, though one disputed by the Israeli government.
