Veteran actress Bushra Ansari has questioned how television host Iqrar-ul-Hassan manages to keep his three wives living together happily, and her remarks have triggered a heated debate on social media.
Ansari said that she struggles to understand the dynamic between the three women. She said, “Three wives are laughing with each other? How is that possible? I’m not asking why, I’m asking how. Even if your own sister is close to your husband, obviously you can’t marry her, but you would want to bring her into your home and feed her to the dogs. How does that make sense,” she asked.
She continued to question the arrangement, pointing out how difficult she believes it is for women to share a husband. “One, two, three…all three of them, all three wives. Having three wives in one household is extremely difficult. It’s hard to share your husband. No matter what she looks like, whether she is beautiful, unattractive, bald, or disabled, you still can’t share your husband. That’s human nature, isn’t it?”
Ansari also turned the question toward gender roles in marriage. She said, “Can a man can share his wife? You can do that? Now, leave aside whether Islam allows or forbids it. Can a woman have three husbands? Can she go to three different men? Wouldn’t it affect her heart? It would, wouldn’t it,” she wondered.
Ansari’s comments quickly divided opinion online. Reactions ranged from agreement to sharp disagreement, with many users offering their own explanations for how the three wives appear to get along.
One user commented, “Thank God someone said it.”
Another added, “Soo true.”
A third disagreed, writing, “Not possible.”
One user offered a different take, “Pehli bewi ka sabar, dosri bewi ki samjdari aur phir tesri bewi ka pehli do ka sath behad muhabbat sy peesh anna. Yehi waja hai k teeno ek sath nazar aati hain [The first wife’s patience, the second wife’s understanding, and then the third wife treating the first two with deep love. This is why all three are seen together].”
Another user remarked, “Literacy and independence with dimagh (brains).”
Someone else wrote, “When maturity hits with love, respect, care, understanding and equal rights with time with both sides, so it’s possible.”
Another person pushed back on the idea that the harmony was genuine, “Yeh sab camera ke agay hai, bilkul sau anay sach baat boli hai [All of this is in front of the camera, she has spoken the complete truth].”
Iqrar-ul-Hassan, known for his investigative show Sar-e-Aam, has been married three times. His first wife is Qurat-ul-Ain, his second wife is Farah, and his third wife is Aroosa Khan.
He has previously said that his wives share a respectful bond and often speak well of each other.
