American actress Gwyneth Paltrow is facing significant public backlash for starring in the advertising campaign for a luxury real estate development in Israel. The Oscar-winning actress, known for her roles in “Shakespeare in Love” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as her lifestyle brand Goop, is fronting the promotional drive for 51 Park, a high-end residential project in Herzliya.
The promotional video features Paltrow promoting two 51-storey luxury residential towers by Israeli developer Aviv Melisron, where penthouses cost millions.
The campaign triggered an immediate social media backlash, with critics pointing out the stark contrast between the luxury lifestyle and the destruction, casualties, and displacement caused by Israel in the genocide in Gaza and Lebanon.
Online commentators were mostly negative, with many calling for a boycott of the actress and her commercial ventures.
One social media user remarked that the actress is “covered in the blood of Gaza’s children”.
Another described her decision as “absolutely disgusting” and suggested creating a shared public document to track and hold accountable celebrities involved in similar promotions.
Further criticism focused on the design and marketing of the development itself. One person questioned the originality of the project, stating that the developers “steal everything” and are “stealing the copyrighted architecture of New York.”
Another described Paltrow as a “genocidal freak” and called the project “incredibly boring”.
Many people questioned the decision to film a New York-centric advertisement to market a luxury complex located in Israel, labeling the endorsement tone-deaf given the ongoing genocide
