Iran has said that its latest exchange of peace proposals with the United States (US) has not produced a agreement, while President of US Donald Trump said that Washington had no immediate plans to launch another round of strikes against Tehran but remained prepared to act if necessary.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that discussions between the two sides continued through mediators, but new points had not been agreed upon. He questioned Washington’s commitment to diplomacy, citing previous experiences with the US
.
“Past experiences close the door on any optimism regarding America’s seriousness in diplomacy,” Baqaei said, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.

He stated that Tehran remained prepared to defend itself and deliver a “crushing response” if attacked. However, he added that Iran would continue to pursue diplomatic opportunities to protect its interests, prevent further aggression and establish security in the region.

Iran’s national security chief Mohsen Rezaei also said that the US response to Tehran’s demands had failed to convince Iranian officials. In a post on X, he said that Washington must address and act upon all seven of Iran’s conditions before Tehran considers reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Separately, Baqaei described allegations surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme as “the century’s biggest lie”. Speaking at an event in Tehran, he said that the US and its allies had used claims about Iran’s nuclear activities as a pretext for decades of pressure and economic restrictions.

He said that no evidence had established that Iran had diverted its nuclear programme towards non-peaceful objectives, but Washington and its allies had continued to raise the allegations.

“Perhaps no lie as big as the ‘Iranian threat’ has been fabricated in the world over the past 70 or 80 years,” Baqaei remarked.

Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf stated that the results of the US midterm elections showed that Americans had rejected war, following Republican losses in both chambers of Congress.

“Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message,” Ghalibaf said in a post on X.

Trump, meanwhile, downplayed speculation about another US military operation against Iran. In an interview with the Financial Times, he said that Washington remained prepared to strike but might have no reason to do so.

“I’m ready, we’re ready. We’re locked and loaded if we need to go, but there may be no reason for it,” Trump said.

The remarks came after Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu passed strong hints about a possible attack later this week.

Separately, the US Embassy in Riyadh reissued a security alert directing non-emergency US government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia because of safety risks.
