Fiza Ali has addressed backlash on an episode of her morning show, Morning With Fiza on 24 News, where her husband Ejaz Khan lifted her over his shoulder during a broadcast.
The segment took place during a surprise appearance by Khan on the show, where the couple was joined by their daughter. As Khan lifted Ali, their daughter was seen giggling. After the footage circulated on social media, Ali took to her Instagram stories on Tuesday to clarify the situation.
She described the act as a "lighthearted spontaneous gesture that did not have any bad meaning behind it". She added that the moment went viral "without context" and stated that she has maintained respect for her work and viewers throughout her career.
The broadcast drew a response from Hina Parvez Butt, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority. Writing on X, Butt termed the incident "regrettable." She stated that It is regrettable that a female anchor and her husband displayed such behavior and indecency in front of their daughter on National TV and adults should demonstrate morals and decorum for the younger generation to learn from, noting that "immoral, childish, and indecent actions have a negative impact on the minds of youngsters".
Social media users expressed disapproval of the segment, with several questioning the role of media regulators.
One user asked, "Is there no limit left to going viral?" and questioned what message was being sent to society by "displaying private life on the TV screen". Another viewer commented, "Where the hell is PEMRA why do they let her do whatever she wants," while others called for the show to be banned or for channel heads to intervene.
Reactions ranged from confusion to anger. One comment read, "For a moment I thought it’s AI," while another asked, "One question WHYYYY FIZA???" Some users focused on the impact on their child, stating, "I feel so bad for her kid," while others attributed the segment to a pursuit of television ratings, calling the move "pathetic".
Industry figures also weighed in, as Mishi Khan and influencer K Khan, known as 'Permit to Life,' posted separate videos mimicking the exchange.
Public sentiment remained largely critical, with users posting comments such as, "This looks disgusting this is not their own house" and "What is going on in Pakistan what kind of entertainment is it".
One individual urged a collective change in culture, warning that otherwise, "people will stoop as low as possible".
