A 20-year-old university student named Laiba Ijaz allegedly commited suicide after a travel agent defrauded her of Rs5 million for a planned move to the United States (US), police said.
Laiba, a student at the International Islamic University, had paid the agent for the process of moving abroad. However, the agent gave her documents that later turned out to be fake, leaving her distressed.
On Friday, Laiba left her house around 2pm and told her mother that she will return shortly. When she did not come back, her mother informed her father, who works as a shopkeeper.
The family then started searching for her and used mobile phone tracking to locate her in Sector G-10, where they found her body hanging from a tree.
Police reached the scene and shifted her body to a hospital.
