A sub-inspector (SI) of the Islamabad police has been arrested for detaining two minor children illegally and physically abusing them.
The police official said on Monday that the children- aged 10 and 12 respectively, were detained by the SI for two days.
The relatives of the children lodged a complaint with the police stating the policeman picked up the children and detained them in a police station before physically assaulting them.
The police official later dropped them off at an Edhi centre.
Inspector General of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi ordered an inquiry and asked his subordinates to investigate the matter.
Police found out that the two minors were begging in Islamabad’s Karachi Company commercial area on September 16. The policeman took the children to the Shams Colony station. He kept them in illegal detention for two days and then dropped them at Edhi centre on September 18.
The relatives of the children claimed the police official abused them during the two days. A medical examination also confirmed their allegations.
The SI has been suspended and a case has been registered.
Dawn reports that the SI is now behind the bars while departmental proceedings have been initiated against him.
