Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli has described the Makkah Alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as a “very dangerous and disturbing development”, saying that the partnership is “very very bad” for Israel.
Speaking to an Israeli media outlet, Chikli said that Saudi Arabia had previously maintained a defence agreement with Pakistan.
“Saudi Arabia was essentially sitting on the fence. It already had a defence agreement with Pakistan, but the moment it goes with the Turks, who were already in direct confrontation with us, one that could develop to dimensions that may have extremely serious consequences, both in the Mediterranean and on the Syrian front with Jolani [President Ahmad al-Sharaa] who is a proxy for Turks,” he said.
The comments came after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement the previous week under which the three countries agreed that an armed attack against any one of them would be considered an attack against all three.
He also called for Israel to deepen its alliances with Greece and Cyprus, as well as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Somaliland, in response to the regional shift.
The Israeli minister has previously criticised Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy. Chikli had described the diplomatic alignment of Pakistan, Türkiye and Qatar as a “new Axis of Evil” and warned that their involvement represented a “dangerous geopolitical shift” for Israel.
