Punjab Women Protection Authority Chairperson and Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Hina Parvez Butt has responded to TikToker Jannat Mirza’s concerns over an unauthorized AI-generated video that uses her face.
Sharing a video on her X account, Butt said, “Jannat Mirza, reacting to her AI-generated video, has highlighted a very important issue. Artificial intelligence has now become an important part of our lives, but the misuse of technology should never become a means of harming someone’s dignity, respect, or privacy.”
She added that using women’s images without consent sets a dangerous precedent. “Using women’s pictures and faces without their consent is particularly concerning. Today, one woman’s face is being misused; tomorrow, it could happen to any girl. Violating digital rights is also a form of violence, as it can amount to psychological distress and trauma for the victim,” she said.
Butt also outlined steps women can take if they find themselves in a similar situation. She said victims should first save screenshots of the content along with the original link, but avoid sharing the link further. Instead, she urged them to report such incidents to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the Cyber Crime Wing. She added that women in Punjab can also call the Punjab Women Protection Authority’s helpline at 0800-1737 for guidance.
“I urge the relevant authorities to take effective action against such incidents. There should be no compromise when it comes to the dignity, respect, and safety of women,” she said.
Butt’s statement came after Mirza spoke out against an AI-generated video that used her face, warning that such content threatens women’s dignity and calling for stronger action against its creation without consent.
The video shows Mirza alongside an unknown male figure, set to the song “Achi Lagti Ho.” She shared her reaction on Instagram Stories, making it clear she found nothing funny about it.
She also acknowledged the value of artificial intelligence as a technology but stressed that using it to create misleading or inappropriate content about real people crosses a line that demands consequences.
