The Jaffar Express was halted at Jacobabad after an explosive device damaged the railway track shortly before the Quetta-bound train was due to pass through the area.
According to officials, the train was travelling from Peshawar to Quetta when the blast occurred near Somra Branch, close to Abdullah Lashari village in Jacobabad.
Police said the explosion took place before the train reached the site, allowing it to avoid the blast.
The train was stopped at Jacobabad Railway Station as a precautionary measure, while its onward journey towards Quetta was suspended.
According to police officials, unidentified miscreants had planted the explosive device on the railway track within the jurisdiction of Saddar police station in Jacobabad.
The motive behind the incident was not immediately established.
“The onward journey of the Jaffar Express towards Quetta was suspended and the train was stopped at Jacobabad Railway Station as a precautionary measure,” officials stated.
Police reached the site after the explosion and launched an investigation into the incident.
The blast damaged the railway track on the route linking Sindh with Balochistan, disrupting the Jaffar Express service between the two provinces.
Officials did not provide further details about the explosive device, including its size or the extent of the damage caused to the track. They also did not disclose whether any arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
The Jaffar Express is a passenger service operating between Peshawar and Quetta.
Authorities suspended its onward movement while police investigated the blast and assessed the condition of the railway track.
