Jason Gillespie calls Pakistan head coach Aaqib Javed a 'clown'
Former Pakistan Test cricket team head coach and Australian Test cricketer Jason Gillespie has launched a scathing attack on the national team's current head coach, Aaqib Javed, calling him a clown and accusing him of running a secret campaign to secure the coaching role for all formats.
He shared an Instagram story, making serious allegations against Aaqib Javed.
Gillespie wrote, "This is hilarious. Aaqib clearly undermined Gary and me behind the scenes, campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown."
Back in December 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chose not to extend the contract of assistant coach Tim Nielsen for the South Africa tour. This decision upset Jason Gillespie, who refused to travel with the team, leading to his fallout with PCB. As a result, Aaqib was appointed as the interim head coach of the Pakistan Test team.
Earlier, in November 2024, PCB had named Aaqib as the interim head coach of the white-ball team until the Champions Trophy 2025.
Meanwhile, in October 2024, Gary Kirsten resigned as Pakistan's white-ball head coach following conflicts with both PCB and Aaqib Javed, which led to his departure.
Under Aaqib, Pakistan faced an early exit from the Champions Trophy, losing to New Zealand and India. Their third match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain.
