Five suspects have been arrested in Jhelum after a woman alleged that she was lured with the promise of employment, sold to another woman and subjected to repeated sexual assault, police have said.

According to Jhelum Sadr Police, the woman approached the police after escaping from a house on Rohtas Road, where she alleged she had been held against her will. Police said they acted immediately on her complaint, registering a first information report (FIR) before arresting five suspects.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had been deceived with the promise of a job and brought to Jhelum, where she was handed over to another woman. She claimed she was then confined in a room and forced into prostitution.

The complainant further alleged that the female suspect’s two sons and two nephews repeatedly sexually assaulted her during her confinement. According to police, she managed to escape when an opportunity arose and reached Jhelum Sadr Police Station, where she reported the alleged offences.

Police have stated that an investigation is under way and that the arrested suspects were being questioned.

District Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum Shafiq Ahmed Chaudhry said the police were committed to pursuing the case and ensuring that those found responsible were brought to justice.

He said the suspects would be presented before the court with solid evidence and that police would seek appropriate punishment under the law.

Police have not released the identities of either the complainant or the suspects.
