Lawyer Jibran Nasir has alleged that a Bykea driver who cooperated with the investigation into Mir Raza’s death lost access to his rented vehicle and was evicted from his residence, prompting Bykea Chief Executive Officer Muneeb Maayr to reject the claim that the driver had been dismissed or banned from the platform.

In a post on X, Nasir claimed that Bykea driver Ihsanullah had cooperated with Mir Raza’s family and investigators “from day one”, but was later evicted by police and had the Bykea vehicle taken back after becoming involved in a police case.

“Instead of encouraging those who stand for justice & have courage to come forth with truth we penalise them as a society,” Nasir wrote.

Nasir added that the judicial commission investigating Raza’s death had taken note of the matter and directed the investigating officer to speak to Ihsanullah’s landlord and Bykea about restoring his situation.

He also called on Bykea to rehire the driver independently.

Maayr responded to the post, describing the account as “a bit misleading”.

He explained that Ihsanullah had been driving the vehicle involved in the incident and had rented it from Bykea’s fleet business on a monthly basis.

According to Maayr, police impounded the vehicle and Ihsanullah was detained for several weeks.

After the vehicle was released, Bykea parked it because it had been involved in a high-profile incident and removed it from the company’s rental offerings.

Maayr maintained that Ihsanullah had not been banned from Bykea and remained free to drive any vehicle on its platform.

“At no point in time was the driver ever banned from Bykea,” he wrote.

The Bykea chief executive further explained that the company currently had no alternative vehicle available to rent to Ihsanullah because its fleet cars were locked and assigned to drivers for multiple months.
