Former US president Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread to his bones despite treatment, his son Hunter Biden has said in an interview with British television.
“The cancer has spread, is metastasised into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said, describing his father’s condition as “very painful” and “very debilitating in many respects”.
“It’s really, really hard, and it’s really sad to watch,” Hunter Biden said, adding that he wished his father would “complain more” about his condition.
Despite his illness, Hunter Biden said his father remained active and committed to public life.
“He’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing… he so believes in this country,” he said.
Hunter Biden became emotional at points while discussing his father’s health.
Joe Biden announced in May 2025, four months after leaving office, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.
He subsequently underwent hormone treatment and radiation therapy.
Biden, 83, said last month that his treatment was going “really well” while announcing his upcoming memoir.
The interview also covered Hunter Biden’s federal criminal cases and his father’s decision to pardon him during the final weeks of his presidency.
“I am the most privileged person, as it relates to that, that there could possibly be,” Hunter Biden said. “I was one of one, and I’m eternally grateful for it.”
Joe Biden issued a sweeping pardon for his son in December 2024, covering his federal convictions on gun and tax charges.
The decision reversed Biden’s earlier pledge not to use his presidential powers to intervene in Hunter Biden’s cases.
