An event organiser allegedly fled with the mobile phones of more than 50 girls after collecting their devices at a farmhouse in Karachi’s Gadap area, a private media outlet has reported.

Police identified the organiser as Salman, who allegedly told the girls that they could not make videos at the venue before collecting their phones.

The girls had reached the farmhouse in two buses after being called there for what they were told was a job. Police later detained the farmhouse manager as the affected girls approached Gadap police station.

One of the girls told police that they were promised food, Rs2,000 and training to set up stalls. She said that they were initially told that the event would take place at a private society but were instead brought to the farmhouse.

The girl added that they were told their boss would hold a meeting at the venue.

According to her statement, the organisers collected their mobile phones and attached receipts to the devices. The girls realised later in the evening that their phones were missing.

She said that Salman then fled the farmhouse on a motorcycle with another man, carrying the phones in a bag.

Police recorded the farmhouse manager’s statement after the incident. The farmhouse administration told police that it had been informed about a corporate event with girls in attendance.

The administration said that it was told that a boss would deliver a speech and the event would end in the evening. It added that it had not received any payment for the event.

The farmhouse administration also confirmed that a man named Salman had collected the mobile phones before fleeing from the venue.
