Pakistani filmmaker, director and AI filmmaker Sibghat Shaikh has created an AI-generated short film that turns Karachi into the setting for a Spider-Man story, showing the superhero fighting criminals, rescuing people and moving through familiar city scenes.
Titled “Spider-Man Above Karachi,” the video presents a fictional Peter Parker who lives in Karachi and becomes the city’s own Spider-Man. The character describes himself as a filmmaker before revealing how a spider bite changed his life and pushed him to start protecting the city.
The concept mixes the well-known Marvel character with situations associated with Karachi, including phone snatching, robberies, burning buildings and flooding.
Shaikh, who works in TV commercials, films and AI filmmaking, created the project using a combination of AI and post-production tools.
According to his post, the video was generated on Seedance 2 through Dreamina AI, upscaled with Topaz Labs, edited on CapCut and given a voiceover using Seed Audio 1.0.
Shaikh is the founder and executive producer of CityFilms, a founding partner at Kenneyz Media City and CEO of Aktivacity, where he works on AI-driven digital solutions and technology.
Rather than recreating Spider-Man in a generic superhero setting, the film places the character directly into Karachi, giving the familiar story local references and a different visual identity.
The idea has drawn a range of reactions from social media users, with many praising the concept, editing and use of AI.
“Karachi needs a Spider-Man urgently,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “Love it, Spider-Man is Sindhi,” while a separate reaction said, “Loving the script, title, edit, characters plus Karachi needs an anti-hero.”
The production itself was also a major talking point, with one user calling it “The best AI work I have ever seen.”
Another commenter wrote, “Finally someone in Pakistan knows how to make a movie,” while another write, “Who said Pakistani creators can’t cook?”
The Marvel connection also caught attention, with one fan writing, “As a Marvel fan I approve this.”
Some users focused on the Karachi angle, with comments including “Karachi needs vigilantes” and “Karachi needs a Spider-Man urgently.”
One reaction compared Shaikh’s version with the original superhero, saying, “Even the Hollywood Spider-Man probably has not dealt with as many problems as the Karachi Spider-Man has. Respect the hustle, Karachi Spider-Man.”
Other users praised the overall execution, describing it as “insane creativity” and saying they “would watch for sure.”
