A young man from Karachi’s PECHS area has been taken into custody after an AI safety system reportedly flagged his queries about murder and alerted the FBI, which then shared the information with Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
According to NCCIA officials, the young man had sought help from an AI platform while developing a fictional crime story. His queries included asking how to kill a person who had allegedly insulted his father. The scenario involved a police or traffic officer, according to the reports.
The AI platform’s safety mechanism classified the queries as a violation and reported the activity to the FBI, NCCIA officials said.
Acting on the information, NCCIA Karachi officials took the young man into custody from PECHS. The investigation focused on the nature of his queries and whether they were linked to any real-world criminal activity.
During questioning, the young man told investigators that he had been seeking AI assistance for a fictional crime story. He said that the incident involving an insult to his father had not actually taken place and that he had created the scenario himself.
NCCIA officials later released him after questioning.
The case follows another incident in which the NCCIA arrested a 17-year-old from Bahawalpur after receiving information from the FBI. The teenager was accused of plotting to kill his father by poisoning him and of seeking help from OpenAI’s free AI service regarding the alleged plan.
