A man shot dead his five-year-old son before killing himself during a domestic dispute in Karachi’s Shah Rasool Colony, Clifton, police have said.

The incident took place at a house in the Boat Basin area, where police recovered a 30-bore pistol and two spent bullet casings from the scene.

Boat Basin Station House Officer (SHO) Riaz Niazi identified the deceased as 28-year-old Tanveer and his five-year-old son Hasnain.

Police said initial investigations suggested that Tanveer had an argument with his wife Shakeela over financial matters. During the dispute, he allegedly took his son into a room and shot him before turning the weapon on himself.

Police reached the house after receiving information about the shooting and called in the crime scene unit to collect evidence. Edhi volunteers later helped shift the bodies to Jinnah Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The SHO said that police had yet to establish whether the recovered pistol was legally licensed and were investigating the matter.

Tanveer’s wife and their young daughter remained safe during the incident, police added.

Police also said that Tanveer originally belonged to Sahiwal, although they were still verifying details about his background.
