A six-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered after being abducted from outside his home in Karachi’s Napier area, police said on Tuesday, as authorities arrested the victim’s neighbour in connection with the case.

According to police, Muhammad Wali went missing on Monday evening after being abducted from outside his residence. His family searched for him for several hours before registering a kidnapping case at Napier Police Station.

The child’s body was later recovered from Punjabi Gali in Napier, where it had allegedly been stuffed into a sack.

Police said the body bore signs of torture and was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination. Investigators said the exact cause of death would be determined once the autopsy report is completed.

Police identified the suspect as Hamza, a neighbour of the victim. Local residents apprehended the suspect before handing him over to police. Authorities said he had been taken into custody and that further investigations were underway.

The victim’s family appealed to senior authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. They alleged they had been searching for the child for nearly two days before his body was recovered.

Speaking to the media, the boy’s mother claimed her son’s body had been packed into a sack and thrown from a three-storey building. Family members further alleged the crime had been committed inside the suspect’s house, accusing him of refusing to allow them to search the premises while appearing to assist in efforts to find the missing child.

The victim’s father said Muhammad Wali was his only son and the youngest of his five children. Police said forensic evidence was being collected and that the investigation would continue following the post-mortem examination.
