Karachi Police Chief Azad Khan has sought a report within three days over the alleged misconduct of police officers during a fight between two families in DHA’s Khayaban-e-Bukhari, Karachi, after footage of the incident went viral.

Khan directed relevant authorities to submit a detailed account of the officers’ conduct. Separately, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) South Asad Raza has summoned both parties and the officers allegedly involved to his office on Monday.

Reports quoted sources as saying that the officers seen in the footage belong to Korangi district and that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi has been asked to provide details of the personnel involved. Raza also said the video would undergo forensic examination.

The CCTV footage shows a woman coming down the stairs of an apartment building with uniformed police officers while carrying a dumbbell. She is then seen repeatedly hitting another woman standing outside the apartment.

The footage further shows police officers restraining the woman being assaulted and her companion when they attempt to resist. A man in plain clothes is also seen taking an officer’s official weapon and using it to damage a CCTV camera.

The woman identified as Noor ul Ain alleged that she was assaulted by an influential woman who later had her and her brother arrested and a case registered against them. The siblings were later granted bail.

The dispute reportedly began between two women living in an apartment complex in DHA’s Khayaban-e-Bukhari before turning into a physical altercation. Noor ul Ain posted footage of the incident on social media, after which it went viral. Her family later lodged a complaint at Darakhshan police station.

Ali Ahsan, a resident of the building, said that his family had been living there since November 2021. He alleged that a woman living on the fourth floor collected maintenance charges and that the family had paid them in advance.

According to Ahsan, the woman later cut off their water supply and damaged a water tank they installed. He also alleged that she threatened to disconnect their electricity.

Police officials had earlier said the officers seen in the footage did not belong to South Zone and were believed to be from Korangi district. They also said that the double-cabin vehicle seen in one of the videos was not a South Zone police vehicle.

DIG South Asad Raza confirmed that the affected residents were a brother and sister who lived in the apartment with their mother. He said the inquiry would be conducted on merit.

The family has since left the apartment and shifted elsewhere.
