Police in Karachi took a man into custody after rescuers recovered his 30-year-old wife’s body from a water pipeline in Dori Goth, Damba Goth, along the Superhighway on Friday, two days after she went missing with their two young daughters.
The woman, identified as Haseena, wife of Qadir Bakhsh, went missing along with her four-year-old daughter, Bakhtawar and 15-month-old daughter Faizila from the Memon Goth area.
Rescue teams continued searching for the children after recovering their mother’s body.
Police shifted Haseena’s body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
According to PS Malir Cantonment Station House Officer (SHO) Agha Abdul Rashid, Haseena lived near Al-Jannat Farmhouse within the jurisdiction of Memon Goth police station, while her husband worked at a nearby factory.
The SHO stated that Haseena’s father and brother approached Memon Goth police after she went missing and submitted an application expressing suspicion against Qadir Bakhsh. They alleged that he had killed Haseena and their two daughters following a domestic dispute and disposed of their bodies.
The woman’s family later apprehended Qadir Bakhsh and handed him over to Memon Goth police, who took him into custody for questioning.
Memon Goth SHO Ayub Mirani said that Qadir Bakhsh had approached the police station two days earlier and reported a quarrel with his wife. He told police that he had physically assaulted Haseena during the dispute, after which she left home with their two daughters.
According to Mirani, Qadir Bakhsh claimed that he could not trace his wife and children after they left and suspected that Haseena had returned to her ancestral village.
Following the woman’s disappearance, her father and brother travelled to Karachi on Friday.
Rescue teams continued their search for Bakhtawar and Faizila, whose whereabouts remained unknown after their mother’s body was recovered.
