Khairpur police in Sindh have arrested 18 suspects, including five main accused, in the killing of Rubina alias Khalida Chandio, who was shot dead within the limits of Tando Masti police station.

SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Khairpur Ameer Saood Magsir has stated that the suspects filmed the killing and circulated the video on social media. 

In the video, the suspects can be seen opening fire on the victim, he said.

The SSP stated that an FIR (First Information Report) had been registered and the case was being monitored using technical and scientific methods.

He said that the police reached the site after the incident and took the victim’s maternal uncle and grandfather into custody along with the weapon used in the crime.

Following the circulation of the video, police carried out raids at multiple locations, he added.

He stated that 18 individuals, including five nominated suspects, had been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts were underway to trace others.

The SSP said the killing was carried out under the pretext of “karo-kari”.

He added that action would also be taken against those present at the scene who did not intervene.

Separately, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah, Home Minister Zia Lanjar, IG (Inspector General of Police) Sindh and MNA Dr Nafisa Shah took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry.

Authorities sought a report from DIG Sukkur and SSP Khairpur regarding the case.
