A Pakistani-born United States (US) citizen, reported missing under circumstances that raised fears of kidnapping, was found staying at a hotel in Hyderabad of his own accord, a private media outlet reported.
Zaid Munir was recovered by Shah Faisal Colony Police and handed over to his family after being located at the hotel. Police revealed that while a kidnapping case had been registered at Shah Faisal Police Station days earlier, Munir had in fact checked into the Hyderabad hotel voluntarily.
In a statement recorded in police custody following his recovery, Munir clarified that he had travelled to Hyderabad on his own to get married and had already informed his sister of his plans. After completing legal formalities, police handed him over to his relatives.
Munir had arrived in Karachi from the United States on May 24. He left his relative’s house in Shah Faisal Colony at around 1:24am the following day, after which his phone number become unreachable.
His cousin, also a US national, had filed the initial complaint, stating that Munir had gone missing shortly after leaving the house, which led to fears of an abduction.
