King Charles III has drawn praise on social media after quoting a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Arabic during a state banquet for Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at Windsor Castle.

Sultan Haitham arrived in the United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday for a three-day state visit, the first by an Omani sultan in 44 years.

King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed him before hosting the banquet later in the evening.

During his speech, Charles quoted a Hadith about the people of Oman, saying: “If you were to come to the people of Oman, they would have neither reviled you nor beaten you.”

A video of the king reciting the Hadith in Arabic has since circulated on social media, with users praising his knowledge of Islamic teachings and other cultures.

One person commented, “I am impressed.”

“King Charles never ceases to impress me with his knowledge of other cultures. Refreshing to see a world leader take the ‘world’ part seriously,” another social media user said.

One comment highlighted the significance of the moment, writing, “The king quoting Arabic on a state visit got my attention more than the visit itself. Small gestures like that land differently when you’ve spent years watching the same region get talked about in…”

Charles also spoke about the longstanding relationship between Britain and Oman, highlighting the Gulf nation’s efforts to promote dialogue and build bridges amid regional conflict.

“There can be few happier symbols of success than a living relationship being passed from one generation to the next,” he added.
