Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain Janwari has been held responsible for administrative negligence in handling an alleged assault involving a man and his sister at an apartment building in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6.
An inquiry report submitted to Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Azad Khan has recommended departmental action against the SSP, along with cases against several people allegedly involved in the incident.
The inquiry recommended registering cases against the SSP’s mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, as well as all police personnel present at the scene, including four officials from Korangi district.
It also called for the suspension of former Darakhshan Station House Officer (SHO) Rashid Ali, a Darakhshan Special Investigation Unit (SIU) official and mobile officer Aftab Mangi. The report recommended departmental proceedings against the officials.
The inquiry also recommended that the FIR [First Information Report] registered against the affected siblings, Ali Ahsan and his sister Noor-ul-Ain, at Darakhshan police station be placed in B-class. Police use the B-class category when an investigation finds a complaint to be false, malicious or frivolous.
The incident took place on August 21 at an apartment building in Chota Bukhari Commercial, Defence Phase 6, where the siblings allegedly faced an assault by influential women in the presence of police personnel.
A video of the incident surfaced on social media on August 28, after which AIG Karachi Azad Khan took notice of the matter.
He appointed South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza as the inquiry officer and directed him to conduct a transparent, impartial and fair investigation.
