Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) came under selling pressure on Tuesday as uncertainty over a possible US-Iran peace agreement weighed on investor sentiment.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index fell 1,806.12 points, or 0.89 percent, to 178,896.29 by 1:24pm.

The index had opened at 180,502.44 and initially moved up to an intraday high of 180,602.44 before losing ground. It later touched 178,488.91 as selling spread across major sectors.

Automobile assemblers, cement companies, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration firms, oil marketing companies and power generation stocks were among the ones facing selling pressure.

Market sentiment remained under pressure as fading expectations of a near-term peace agreement between Iran and the US raised concerns about regional oil supplies. International oil prices also increased amid concerns over possible supply disruptions.

By midday, around 358.21 million shares had been traded on the exchange, with the total traded value reaching approximately Rs22.47 billion.

KSE-100 had closed at 180,502.44 in the previous session.
