Research platform Numbeo's 2025 Crime and Safety Index shows that Lahore has become one of the safest cities in the world, a significant improvement over the state of crime in  second biggest city of the country.

The city has surpassed big metropolises including New York, London, Washington, D.C., Berlin, Istanbul, and Paris to rank 37th on the Global Crime Index and 63rd among the safest cities worldwide.

This is the first time in Lahore’s history that such a significant drop in crime has been documented. Stronger accountability within the law enforcement system and more efficient policing techniques are credited by the report for the drop.

The city's reported crime rate fell significantly from 67,585 occurrences over the same period last year to 34,091 events between April 2024 and April 2025.

While ordinary robberies decreased by 55 percent, serious crimes, such as murder and robbery, decreased by 64 percent.
The report also highlighted notable improvements in curbing vehicle-related crimes:

Motorcycles thefts decreased by 33 percent.

Street snatching went down by 42 percent.

Car thefts decreased by 33 percent.

Other vehicle thefts dropped by 39 percent.

Following internal investigations, four SHOs were imprisoned within their own precincts, and more than 400 police personnel and officials were disciplined internally for misconduct.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran attributed the success to data-driven policing, stating that crime hotspots were identified through technology and reinforced with additional manpower and resources.

"We identified crime hotspots using technology and boosted human resources and equipment in these areas," he said. “Advertised criminals and habitual offenders were arrested and incarcerated, and merit-based appointments gave opportunities to young officers."

Kamran also emphasized the significance of political backing and autonomy in implementing reforms.

"Political support and freedom from external pressures enabled us to make and enforce clear policies," he said.

"Our future goal is clear: to make Lahore one of the safest cities globally."
