An 18-year-old girl who died after allegedly suffering prolonged violence at the hands of her family in Lahore was also sexually abused by her father and two brothers, police have said.
The victim, identified as Maham, was brought to Ganga Ram Hospital with severe injuries on September 26. Police said that she later died at the hospital after the suspects allegedly left her there and fled.
Police have arrested Maham’s father Muhammad Anwar, her brothers Hammad and Hamza and her sister Hina in connection with the case registered in Sanda.
According to the initial investigation, Maham’s mother died a few months after her birth. Her paternal aunt raised her. Police said that the sexual abuse allegedly started while Maham was living with her aunt.
After she returned to her father’s home, her father allegedly sexually abused her, while her two brothers later also allegedly subjected her to sexual abuse, police said.
An initial postmortem also confirmed sexual abuse, according to police.
Investigators found that Maham had suffered repeated injuries from pipes, iron rods and other objects. Police also found burn injuries on her body, including her genitals, which investigators said were allegedly caused by a heated iron rod and a knife.
Police said that the suspects were allegedly torturing Maham on the day she died.
The spokesperson for Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations said that the girl died after continued violence and abuse.
Police registered the murder case on their own complaint and said all four main suspects have been taken into custody.
