The Lahore High Court (LHC) has allowed nearly 2,000 judicial officers in Punjab to purchase their official vehicles at subsidised prices ranging from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000 under a new scheme for the judiciary.

According to a 74-page circular issued by the Director General, Directorate of District Judiciary, on July 11, District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges and Family Judges are eligible to acquire the government-owned vehicles currently allotted to them.

The scheme also applies to judges serving in Anti-Terrorism Courts, Accountability Courts, Banking Courts, FIA Special Courts, Anti-Narcotics Courts, Customs Courts and Labour Courts, as well as Punjab judicial officers on deputation to the Islamabad High Court, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Constitutional Court, and the federal and provincial law ministries.

Eligible officers will be able to purchase Suzuki Alto, Toyota Corolla and Honda City vehicles currently assigned to them as official transport. The vehicles will remain the property of the Lahore High Court until the purchase process is completed.

The circular directs judicial officers to submit pay orders in favour of the Registrar, Lahore High Court, by July 22, 2026, to avail themselves of the concession.

Official figures show Punjab’s subordinate judiciary comprises 147 District and Sessions Judges, around 500 Additional District and Sessions Judges, 110 Senior Civil Judges, and nearly 1,000 Civil Judges, Family Judges and Judicial Magistrates, with approximately 2,000 officers expected to benefit from the initiative.

Following the announcement, court staff and judicial officers were seen visiting banks to obtain pay orders for the subsidised purchase of their allotted vehicles, according to local media reports.
