A man has allegedly killed his wife and injured their five children in a knife attack at his in-laws’ house in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony, following a dispute with his wife over a domestic matter.

The suspect, identified as Arshad, was arrested by police on Sunday and booked in a murder case after the killing at Hakim Chowk, a police official said.

According to the official, Arshad had an argument with his wife over a domestic issue a couple of days before the attack. Following the dispute, the woman left their home with their five children and moved to her parents’ house.

The suspect went to his in-laws’ house on Sunday to bring his wife and children back, but she refused to return, the official added.

He said that Arshad then attacked his wife with a knife. When the children tried to intervene and rescue their mother, the suspect also attacked them, leaving all five injured.

Police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the house after receiving information about the incident.

Rescue officials shifted the injured woman and children to a hospital for treatment. The woman later died from her injuries, while one of the children was reported to be critical.

In another similar incident four weeks prior, a man allegedly shot his wife dead before taking his own life after a minor argument in Lahore’s Ichhra area, police said.

The man was identified as Rehan Latif while his wife was named Mahwish.

Residents of the neighbourhood told police they heard the couple arguing shortly before gunshots were fired. Initial investigations suggested Rehan shot Mahwish and then died by suicide.

Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation into the deaths.
