Police have arrested one of three men accused of assaulting petrol pump workers near Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, after a video of the incident circulated on social media.

Lahore Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran has confirmed that police identified and arrested the suspect, Rizwan, after reviewing hundreds of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) recordings.

Police arrested the suspect in Rawalpindi and also seized the vehicle allegedly used by the suspects.

According to police, the incident took place at a petrol pump in DHA on Sunday. The video shows a group of men, including an armed man, assaulting and intimidating petrol pump workers.

Kamran said that Rizwan appeared in the footage pointing a gun at the employees and threatening them. He added that two other suspects were also seen slapping and assaulting a worker.

“We took help from the Safe Cities Authority which deployed multiple teams to track down the vehicle of the suspects,” the DIG said, adding that the cameras eventually helped police trace the vehicle to Rawalpindi.

Police arrested Rizwan after locating the vehicle and handed him over to the investigation police. The other two suspects remain untraced.

According to the FIR [First Information Report] filed by the petrol station manager, the three suspects allegedly became violent after employees stopped them from using the underground storage tank as a toilet.

The manager alleged that the suspects were drunk and that one of them loaded a bullet into his gun while threatening to open fire. He also alleged that the suspects assaulted and tortured one of the employees.
