Four police personnel, including two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), have been booked in Lahore over allegations that they detained two citizens after stopping their vehicle for checking and demanded money for their release, according to an FIR circulating on social media.
The case was registered following a complaint submitted to the officer in charge of the Crime Control Department (CCD-II) in Lahore.
The complaint alleges that the two citizens were travelling from Gujranwala to Lahore when they were stopped by police on the motorway.
According to the FIR, the officers included two ASIs and two constables. The complainant alleged that the personnel stopped their vehicle on the pretext of checking and subsequently took the vehicle and its occupants to a private residence.
The complainant alleged that the officers demanded Rs100,000 and threatened the citizens with serious consequences if the money was not arranged.
The FIR states that the complainant was subsequently allowed to contact his brother to arrange the demanded amount.
According to the complaint, Rs50,000 was transferred through JazzCash to the account provided by the police personnel.
The complainant further alleged that another Rs50,000 was also arranged and handed over, after which the two citizens were released.
The FIR alleges that the police personnel threatened the complainant and his friend after receiving the money.
It further states that the complainant later approached senior officials and sought legal action against the personnel involved.
The complaint requested registration of a case under Section 365-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, a provision relating to kidnapping or abduction for ransom.
