Lahore police have registered a case against an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and hitting a woman’s car on Jail Road.

ASI Ghafir Naveed, who is posted at the Judicial Wing at Lahore Police Lines, was involved in the incident that happened around 9:35am on October 14 near Services Hospital.

According to the FIR [First Information Report] registered at Shadman police station, his vehicle hit the parked car of a woman named Saima and caused considerable damage. The FIR says he was driving at excessive speed.

Police registered the case under sections 279 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with provisions of the Punjab police discipline law and the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order, 1979.

A video of the incident has also gone viral, showing the woman confronting the driver.

Lahore police said that the ASI paid Rs500,000 to cover the damage to her car. The two sides reached a settlement by mutual consent, but the settlement does not stop the departmental inquiry. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations is leading it.

Police said the ASI will face strict departmental punishment once the procedure and timeframe under the rules are complete.
