Lahore police on Thursday rescued two foreign women from kidnappers before a two-hour deadline set by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz expired.
As per the details, the provincial chief executive had set the deadline for a rescue operation after an emergency phone call from the Netherlands reported the kidnapping.
The women, who hold Dutch and Venezuelan nationality, had travelled to Pakistan to meet friends. The father of one of the women, based in the Netherlands, contacted Pakistan’s emergency helpline 15 to report the kidnapping.
According to an FIR, the suspects abducted the women for ransom and demanded $1.5 million. The accused also face allegations of assaulting the women.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran said that police launched an immediate rescue operation after receiving the tip-off from the woman’s father. Officers used Safe City surveillance to trace the suspects and recover the abducted women.
He added that a case had been registered against the accused at Lahore’s Defence C police station and two suspects were under arrest while raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining accused.
The victims have undergone medical examination, and further legal action is proceeding based on existing evidence.
