A rickshaw driver has been arrested in Lahore after a female passenger alleged that he shared her mobile number on social media following an argument during an InDrive ride.
The case was registered at Nishtar Colony Police Station under Sections 354, 509(ii) and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), with the investigation assigned to an Investigating Officer (IO).
According to the FIR [First Information Report] submitted to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Lahore, the passenger had booked an InDrive ride during which the driver allegedly behaved rudely and inappropriately towards her.
She said that she objected to his behaviour, after which the driver allegedly threatened to post her mobile number on social media and misuse it.
The woman stated that the driver shared her number on social media the following day, which she said caused her distress and made her fear further harassment.
She told police that she had the rider’s phone number, the name linked to his Facebook account, screenshots, call records and other evidence and was willing to provide them to investigators.
The complaint was forwarded to the police station through the front desk. After reviewing the application, police determined that offences under Sections 354, 509(ii) and 506 PPC were made out and registered the case.
The woman had initially raised the matter at a DIG Operations open court, following which police took action against the driver.
