Punjab recorded 9,634 new HIV registrations in the first seven months of 2026, surpassing the 7,920 registrations reported across the entire province in 2025.
According to news reports citing figures from Punjab Health Department, the January-July 2026 total is around 22% higher than the previous year’s full-year figure.
Officials cautioned, however, that the numbers represent people newly registered in the reporting system and should not be interpreted automatically as infections acquired during the same period.
Lahore accounted for the largest share, with 7,041 registrations during the seven-month period. Faisalabad followed with 728, while Kasur recorded 393. Other districts with notable figures included Okara with 232, Nankana Sahib with 125, Gujranwala with 117 and Bahawalnagar with 111.
The data showed 103 registrations in Layyah, 94 in Gujrat, 78 in Jhang, 77 in Narowal, 67 in Pakpattan, 66 in Dera Ghazi Khan and 62 in Multan.
Lodhran recorded 44 registrations, followed by Hafizabad with 43, Khanewal with 39, Bahawalpur with 38, Muzaffargarh with 24 and Chiniot with 21.
Smaller numbers were recorded in several other districts, including Chakwal, Jhelum, Bhakkar and Mianwali.
The 2025 provincial total was compiled from monthly registrations ranging from 558 in April to 781 in July.
Punjab recorded 653 registrations in January, 622 in February, 647 in March, 558 in April, 685 in May, 575 in June and 781 in July.
Registrations then stood at 707 in August, 754 in September, 724 in October, 606 in November and 608 in December, bringing the annual total to 7,920.
