A woman sustained injuries to her face, nose, throat and head after she jumped from a moving motorcycle to escape alleged harassment by a ride-hailing rider in Lahore’s Johar Town on October 17, police have said.

The woman had booked a ride from F-2 in Johar Town to Watto Palace when the rider allegedly attempted to behave inappropriately towards her, according to police.

Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the incident reportedly showed the woman jumping from the moving motorcycle. She suffered injuries in the fall, while the rider fled the scene after she jumped off the motorcycle.

The woman’s brother later filed a complaint against the rider, following which police registered a case. Police have not disclosed the suspect’s identity or provided further details about the investigation.

The incident came days after another assault on a woman riding a scooter in Lahore’s Mozang area.

On October 24, police arrested a man accused of assaulting a woman on Mozang Link Road. Police stated that the suspect blocked the woman’s way, knocked her off her scooter, slapped her and pulled her hair. The woman sustained injuries to her face and nose in the altercation.

The woman’s father lodged a complaint against the suspect, following which police registered a case.
