Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said the government complied with Supreme Court (SC) directives concerning the medical examination of imprisoned former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, maintaining that a senior panel of doctors found no threat to his health.
Speaking to reporters outside the Punjab Forensic Science Agency on tuesday, Tarar said the Supreme Court had directed that Khan undergo a medical examination but had not ordered that he remain at the medical facility indefinitely.
“The government position is that the Supreme Court never stated he had to remain there indefinitely,” Tarar said. “They said he should undergo a medical examination.”
Tarar stated that a panel comprising senior physicians conducted the examination to determine whether Khan faced any threat to his life.
He described access to medical care and appropriate oversight as a constitutional and fundamental right.
“A team of doctors, including very senior doctors, conducted the medical examination,” Tarar pointed out. “This was to determine whether there was any threat to Khan Sahib’s life, as that is his constitutional right, his fundamental right.”
According to Tarar, Khan’s sister was present throughout the examination and later confirmed that he was healthy during a press conference.
“His sister, who was accompanied throughout this entire process, herself stated in her press conference to you all that, Alhamdulillah, he is fine in every respect, healthy, and sound,” he added.
Tarar also stated that any outstanding concerns should be taken before the courts rather than addressed through public protests.
“Following this, if there was any remaining shortfall, it should be examined by the courts; it will not be resolved through rallies and demonstrations,” he added.
