‘#LUMSFeeHike’ is trending on twitter after the Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) confirmed its students through email that they would increase tuition fee by 40 per cent for the upcoming semesters.

Once this news came out, people reacted strongly to the decision made by the varsity.

Lums is a sham istg
In my entire year of being a member of the student council, which is supposed to have a voice in decisionmaking, not once have we been consulted about important decisions. So much for inclusivity.
The only way to be heard is screaming and shouting#LumsFeeHike

A large number of people went to Twitter to express their anger against the unpopular decision made by the private university. People are angry and presenting different arguments; however, the most common sentiment is that they see it as “capitalistic exploitation”.

It is very disturbing for many people because they are being laid off from their jobs. Several others, on the other hand, have not been paid for months.

Sab kuch choro, doing this in the middle of a goddamn pandemic??? when people are losing their jobs, and small businesses are forced to shut down. why NOW?? LUMS has had the regular policy for over 25 years. Did they suddenly find this loophole to charge us more? #lumsfeehike

Moreover, people are also seeing this act as a step of depriving them of quality education. LUMS has maintained its reputation of giving the modern and best education to its students. However, it is now getting more and more difficult for people to support their education.

Outrageous that LUMS & FCU, two private universities in Lahore, increased their fee during the lock down. Its an attack on parents & students who are already struggling.

Our youth will continue to suffer unless we save education system from private mafias. #LUMSFeeHike

please only consider applying to LUMS if you have an unlimited source of money because any time during your degree, it can demand 40% more and there will be nothing you can do :))) #ResistFeeScam #LUMSFeeHike

Apart from all these sentiments, students have openly confessed that to pay the tuition fee of one student, some parents have to sacrifice the fee of other siblings at home.

the look on my parents faces when i told them about the #LUMSFeeHike now they have to compromise on 1 daughters education while barely being able 2 finance the others. it’s alr difficult to make ends meet as it is, i have seen them sacrifice + struggle so much it breaks my heart
