A madrassa teacher has been arrested after CCTV footage of him assaulting a minor student along with others in Lahore’s Kahna area on Sunday surfaced online. The footage shows seven individuals attacking the boy on the seminary premises.
The victim, identified as Sameer, sustained multiple wounds across his body and was hospitalised in serious condition. The madrassa head, identified as Tahir, along with several students, carried out the assault before fleeing the scene.
Police traced and arrested Tahir, who also served as the seminary’s administrator. A police official told reporters that the beating began after Sameer and Tahir got into a heated argument, following which Tahir called in accomplices and attacked the student.
Raids are underway for the remaining suspects, the official added. A case has been registered against them on the complaint of Sameer’s brother.
The incident took place just days after a separate madrassa torture case in Lahore’s Cantt area turned fatal.
A 12-year-old student named Ali Haider, who hailed from Bahawalnagar, died from injuries he sustained at the hands of his madrassa teacher. His family had taken him home and continued treating him privately without informing police. It was only after his death that they approached law enforcement and filed a complaint.
