Mahira Khan harassed at Love Guru’s meet-and-greet in London
Pakistani star actor Mahira Khan has been physically harassed at a promotional event for her upcoming movie ‘Love Guru’ in London, videos on social media showed.
As per the details, the actor had arrived at the Indo-Pak Supermarket store in Ilford town of London along with co-star Humayun Saeed when she was physically harassed by at least three people amid the security’s failure to control the crowd.
Sources privy to the incident told The Current that Mahira was harassed by a security guard and at least two more people inside the store after she entered the store after a lot of scuffle and mismanagement. The two people inside the store touched her inappropriately.
“It happened when she was trying to make her way to the terrace to wave at fans as part of the promotional event,” sources said.
The sources added that the actor seemed visibly shaken besides also being reluctant to go forth with the event due to the display of Indian flags at the venue amid tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
However, they claimed, the event went on as planned as the actors had already been paid for the meet-and-greet session.
Meanwhile, people familiar with the matter said that the store paid £5,000 for the appearance but no money was paid to the actor.
A source close to the actor said, “She signed up to promote the film. She has not taken any money for the appearance. She agreed to attend the event for the film promotion. What happened there was shocking.”
It merits a mention that videos on social media had also shown Mahira and Humayun waving at fans from the store’s terrace.
Details of the incident unfolded only after subsequent videos showed a visibly uncomfortable Mahira trying to make her way into the store surrounded by a huge crowd.
The sources said that Mahira immediately launched protest with organisers of the event and shared her sadness and shock with them.
According to reports, at least one female reporter from a private media outlet was also harassed at the event. She also called the police and registered a complaint.
A statement from the actor or organisers is awaited.
