Police have arrested Malik Ibrahim, the main suspect in the assault case involving a young man in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 8 after a video of the incident sparked outrage on social media.

The viral footage showed three men attacking a young man, identified as Ali Jafri, prompting police to launch an operation that led to Ibrahim’s arrest.

According to Ali Jafri, he had gone out for dinner with friends in DHA Phase 6. He claimed that after leaving the restaurant, someone struck him on the head with a stick, causing him to lose consciousness.

Ali alleged that the suspects then forced him into a car and assaulted him. He further claimed that one of the men stood nearby holding a pistol while the attackers repeatedly asked him to apologise. He also alleged that the suspects demanded money and made purchases using funds from his account.

Earlier, a video of the assault circulated widely online, showing Ali pleading with folded hands and saying, “Ibrahim bhai, forgive me,” while the men beat him with a baseball bat. The victim reportedly suffered a serious leg injury during the attack.

Police said that the victim had previously been involved in a dispute at a gaming zone located within the jurisdiction of Gizri police station. Investigators said that the assault took place on August 29.
