Police in Karachi have arrested a man on Tuesday on charges of raping and murdering his brother’s wife in Malir Cantt. 

 

Reports citing police said that the suspect Ishaq confessed during initial interrogation to assaulting and strangling 30-year-old Sadia, daughter of Hidayatullah. Her body was found inside a house in Haji Zakaria Goth with a noose around her neck.

 

Police registered a case on the complaint of Sadia’s brother Muhammad, who also nominated her mother-in-law Allah Rakhi, sister-in-law Kausar, Rashid, and younger brother Adil as suspects. The role of Sadia’s husband remains unclear, and police have not disclosed his whereabouts.

 

Hidayat told police that Sadia had visited his house with her five children and mother-in-law on August 24 to attend a family function. After returning home, he received a call claiming she had committed suicide.

 

“When I reached the house, I saw her body on the bed with strangulation marks on her neck and injuries on her nose and forehead,” Hidayat said. He alleged that her in-laws were preparing for burial before police arrived at the house.

 

Hidayat called the police helpline, and the body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for postmortem. Doctors confirmed Sadia was sexually assaulted and strangled to death, ruling out suicide.
