Police in Lahore’s Kahna have arrested a man after a widely-circulated video showed him publicly assaulting his wife.
According to a police spokesperson, law enforcement personnel traced and apprehended the suspect, identified as Usman, during a raid in Cheddu village.
The police took notice of the incident after footage of the assault began circulating on social media platforms, showing the suspect subjecting his wife to violence by a busy road.
The footage showed motorists and passersby ignoring the situation and refusing to intervene as the woman cried for help.
Additionally, the video showed an accomplice of the suspect sitting on a motorcycle parked near the scene.
Following the arrest, the woman informed the police that her husband and his accomplice were attempting to forcibly take her to another location.
During the initial investigation, the police spokesperson stated that the incident occurred due to a domestic dispute.
Commenting on the arrest, deputy inspector general (DIG) of operations said that individuals involved in violence and harassment against women would not be spared. “Strict action would be taken against those found involved in such acts, in accordance with the law,” he said.
