Police in Lahore have arrested a man for allegedly conspiring with a woman to poison her husband and three minor daughters in Jaranwala Road’s Sitara Park area of Faisalabad.

The suspect, Babar Ali, had gone into hiding after the incident on July 26, police said, adding that they traced and arrested Babar after a two-week operation involving raids at multiple locations and technical tracking resources.

Saddar police had already arrested the woman, identified as Asma Bibi, shortly after the death of her husband Azhar Ali.

Earlier, City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain formed dedicated investigation teams to track down the suspect. Saddar Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Ali Khan and Khanowana police post in-charge Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Javed led the search units that brought Babar into custody.

The killings had come to light after the deceased’s brother Rana Muhammad Tahir Javed filed a complaint at the Saddar police station.

According to the FIR [First Information Report], registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Azhar died under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Gulshan-e-Raheem. His three young daughters also lost consciousness at the scene after ingesting some poisoned substance.

While immediate medical attention saved the lives of all three girls, Tahir, in the FIR, had alleged that Asma had an extra-marital affair with Babar and planned the poisoning to clear the way for marriage.
