Police in Arifwala have arrested a man on charges of killing and dismembering his mother-in-law over a financial dispute involving Rs600,000.
The suspect, identified as Ikram, lived with his mother-in-law Bushra Bibi. Investigations reveal that the incident occurred six months ago after Bushra Bibi sold a buffalo for Rs600,000. According to police, Ikram repeatedly demanded the cash from her. When she refused to hand over the money, he killed her.
To hide the crime, Ikram reportedly cut the body into pieces, placed the remains inside a trunk, and buried it in nearby fields. At the time of the murder, his wife was away from home, working in fields.
Following the woman’s disappearance, Ikram staged a missing person narrative. This led to the registration of a kidnapping case. However, authorities eventually detained Ikram on suspicion. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder and stealing the money.
“The suspect confessed not only to the murder but also to stealing the Rs600,000,” police stated.
Based on the information provided by the suspect, police reached the burial site and recovered the remains. The body has been moved for legal formalities, and further proceedings against the suspect are underway.
