A Quetta resident has killed his wife, their four children, and himself in the Wahdat Colony area of Brewery Road in the city on Monday.
The individual, identified by police as Muhammad Asif, son of Musa Khan, was an employee at the Civil Secretariat. Before the incident, Asif recorded a video message detailing the reasons behind the murder-suicide which subsequently circulated on social media platforms.
In the video statement, Asif alleged that two senior officials from the Balochistan Secretariat threatened and pressured him to vacate his government-allotted residence.
He stated that he had been living in the house with his family for several years.
Within the recording, Asif requested Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Sarfraz Bugti and senior government authorities to investigate the pressure that led to his decision.
CM Sarfraz Bugti ordered an inquiry into the crime and directed law enforcement to arrest the officials named in the video clip.
Following the orders, Balochistan government representatives confirmed that multiple officials were taken into custody for interrogation. The detained individuals include Under Secretary Aftab Jabal, Director of Industries Iqbal Sarparah, and Saeed Mengal.
Police identified the deceased family members as Asif’s wife, Bibi Zainab, and his four children: 14-year-old Huzaifa, 12-year-old Hoorain, six-year-old Alina, and one-and-a-half-year-old Maharna.
