A man in India’s Karnataka state allegedly stabbed his friend to death during a dispute over eating more pieces of chicken than he did at a private gathering, according to media reports.

The incident took place in Belagavi district, where the two men were attending a party.

The men, identified as Arun Kumar and Sitaram, were friends and worked at a local steel company, according to the reports.

A disagreement reportedly broke out between the two during the gathering over the number of pieces of chicken each had eaten.

The argument escalated into a heated exchange, with Kumar allegedly taking out a knife and stabbing Sitaram in the chest.

According to the reports, Kumar then took the injured man to a government hospital for treatment. Sitaram later died in the hospital from his injuries.

Police arrived at the hospital after being informed of the incident and took Kumar into custody for questioning.

Kumar allegedly initially attempted to conceal the circumstances of the incident by claiming that Sitaram had been injured after falling from a building.

During questioning, however, Kumar reportedly admitted to stabbing his friend, according to the reports.

Police have taken the alleged confession into account as part of their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sitaram’s death.

Further legal proceedings against Kumar are expected to follow the police investigation.
