The Gujranwala police have arrested a man suspected of executing a triple murder, including the killing of his own daughter, in an alleged honour-related crime. The incident occurred in Mandiala Warraich village, located within the Gujranwala Cantonment police precincts, where the suspect allegedly shot and killed three individuals on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as the suspect’s daughter, Faiza, her husband, Abdul Waheed, and a family employee. According to police sources, Faiza had contracted a marriage of her own choice with Waheed, a resident of Kali Mandi, shortly after Eid-ul-Fitr in a court of law.

The couple then fled the area to evade familial backlash. However, they recently returned to the village after Eid-ul-Azha, having received assurances from the suspect’s family that they would not be subjected to any harm.

Despite the guarantees, the suspect, identified as Tariq Warraich, allegedly opened fire on the couple, killing both instantly. During the assault, a domestic worker identified alternatively in preliminary police reports as Zulfiqar or Bhutto attempted to intervene and stop the violence, but was also shot and killed by the perpetrator.

Following the shooting, senior law enforcement officials, including SP City Division and SHO Cantonment, reached the crime scene with police contingents to secure evidence. The bodies were subsequently shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Ghias Gul Khan took formal notice of the triple homicide, ordering immediate updates on the case. A spokesperson for the Gujranwala police subsequently confirmed that Cantonment police successfully traced and apprehended the fleeing suspect, who is now undergoing interrogation.
