The Punjab government will incorporate the four-day Marka-e-Haq skirmishes between Pakistan and India into the academic curriculum.

According to reports, the agenda was finalised by Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari during an Information Steering Committee meeting Wednesday, and is aimed at introducing the conflict to the youth. It also includes the production of films based on the cross-border escalation.

“To instill a spirit of patriotism among the younger generation, the content related to Marka-e-Haq will be incorporated into the academic curriculum,” the minister said.

She noted that private schools are expected to mirror public institutions in holding programmes focused on national unity and the conflict.

The hostilities that broke out in May last year following a militant attack in in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), were the worse of their kind in decades. While India blamed Pakistan for the terror incident, Islamabad denied the allegations.

Pakistan reported the downing of multiple Indian fighter jets in retaliatory action that also led to India seeking US involvement and ultimately a ceasefire.

In an effort to strengthen the national narrative, the committee on Wednesday also approved the use of the Film Fund to produce movies about the war. It further requested that representatives from the military’s media-wing continued visiting schools and colleges to offer ideological guidance to students.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani, Additional Secretary Home Maham Asif, Deputy Secretary Finance Shehzad Hotiana and Director Law Shahid Imtiaz.
